Reasons and Solutions for Fogging of Infrared Cameras

Infrared camera night vision fogging is a very common problem, but the industry has not been able to solve this problem well. For example, the EZVIZ cloud brand owned by the industry leader Haikang has reported that the EZVIZ waterproof camera is fogging.

The reason for the fogging of the camera lens is not only the problem of the camera itself, but also has a lot to do with the use environment.

foggy location

There are two main places, the inner lens and inner glass of the camera, and the outer glass cover of the camera.

cause of fog

Mainly because the temperature of the place where the camera is used is low and the air humidity is high. The infrared camera is activated by infrared at night, and the internal temperature of the machine is relatively high. Because the saturated water vapor in the air condenses into fog and frost, it sticks to the glass of the infrared camera protective cover or the inner lens of the camera, resulting in unclear objects.

There is a question here, whether the camera is tightly sealed to prevent the generation of fog, or to ensure better ventilation to prevent water vapor from condensing on the lens inside the camera. Therefore, specific problems need to be analyzed in detail.

Ⅰ. The inside of the camera is fogged up

There is water vapor inside the camera housing and the humidity is high. Where did the moisture inside come from?

The materials used for circuit boards, PCB boards, chip motherboards, light boards, lenses, and even shells are not good, contain impurities, and volatile materials, and the ambient air humidity of the assembly is high. At night, when the camera's infrared is activated, the temperature is high, and the high temperature causes these impurities, and the water vapor volatilizes. The camera is sealed well, and the water vapor cannot be emitted and condensed on the internal lens.

1. In this case, generally increase the defrosting circuit, open air holes, add fans, put desiccant, etc. To fundamentally solve the problem, it must be strictly controlled before leaving the factory to prevent the existence of volatiles.

2. The circuit board PCB board, chip main board, light board, and lens are made of good quality and workmanship, without impurities and volatile materials.

3. The shading ring is in line with the glass, and do not leak light (the lens shading ring leaks light and is not tightly connected with the glass, and the infrared light is refracted into the lens)

4. Extend the copying time and keep the inside of the camera dry (the production environment should not be too humid)

If it is water vapor coming in from the outside, it is mainly because the waterproof measures of the camera are not well done.

Improve the production process. First, add a waterproof rubber sleeve, and add a water pad at the interface to play a waterproof role; secondly, apply waterproof glue at the connection screw port to enhance waterproofness. Generally, the infrared camera adopts an aluminum alloy shell to improve the accuracy of the interface, and uses high-quality silicone material to stick , the effect is ideal.

Ⅱ. External fog from the camera

This has nothing to do with the camera itself. The outside air is humid, raining and other reasons, the water vapor covers the camera cover glass, blocking the line of sight.

Solution: add wipers on the protective cover to clean the glass; use invisible wipers for window glass, which have the functions of repelling water and dust.
