The Difference Between Dome Camera and PTZ and Their Composition

Thedome camera is a representative of the development of modern TV surveillance. It integrates a color integrated camera, a pan/tilt, and a decoder, a protective cover and other functions, easy to install, simple to use but powerful, widely used in the monitoring of open areas, can be used in different occasions. The integrated front-end imaging equipment with built-in integrated camera (including zoom lens), pan-tilt structure, decoder and spherical shield is called integrated dome camera. It has the characteristics of small size, beautiful appearance, powerful function, convenient installation, simple use, and easy maintenance. It is also popularly called "fast ball" or "ball machine".

PTZ is the supporting equipment for installing and fixing the camera. It is divided into two types: fixed and motorized pan and tilt head. The fixed pan/tilt is suitable for the situation where the surveillance range is not large. After the camera is installed on the fixed pan/tilt, the horizontal and tilt angle of the camera can be adjusted. After reaching the best working posture, it is enough to lock the adjustment mechanism. The motorized pan and tilt head is suitable for scanning and monitoring a large area, and it can expand the surveillance range of the camera. The high-speed attitude of the motorized pan/tilt is realized by two executive motors, and the motors receive signals from the controller to operate and position accurately. Under the action of the control signal, the camera on the pan-tilt can automatically scan the surveillance area, and can also track the surveillance object under the control of the staff on duty in the surveillance center.

From the above concepts, do you have an understanding of the difference between the dome camera and PTZ? Then let's analyze the difference in their composition.

The main components of the dome camera include electronic devices such as integrated camera, high-speed stepper motor pan/tilt, embedded decoder board and other electronic devices and dome shield (4 inch (mini ball), 5.7 inch, 6 inch, 7 inch, 9 inch), mounting brackets.

Inside, the PTZ video camera can be rotated up, down, left, and right under the control of the control terminal to achieve the monitoring effect.

There are 3 types of common dome cameras on the market: fixed type, rotatable type, and PTZ function type. The functions it possesses are also different according to its type, and it also allows users to have more room for choice, and they can choose products that meet their needs according to different application environments.

There are two motors inside the omni-directional PTZ, which are responsible for the rotation of the PTZ up and down and left and right. The difference in operating voltage also determines the overall operating voltage of the pan/tilt, which generally include AC 24V, AC 220V, and DC 12V. When receiving the up and down action voltage, the vertical motor rotates, and the reduction box drives the vertical transmission wheel to rotate; when receiving the left and right action voltage, the horizontal motor rotates and drives the horizontal gear plate at the bottom of the pan/tilt through the reduction box to rotate.

It should be noted that the pan/tilt has horizontal and vertical limit bolts, and the pan/tilt has two micro switches to realize the limit function. When the rotation angle reaches the preset limit bolt, the micro switch action cuts off the power, and the pan/tilt stops rotating. The limit device can be located outside the pan/tilt, and the adjustment process is simple, or it can be located inside the pan/tilt, and adjusted through the adjustment mechanism of the peripheral, and the adjustment process is relatively complicated. However, the tightness of the PTZ with an external limit device is not as good as the PTZ with a built-in limit device.

The outdoor pan/tilt is roughly the same as the indoor pan/tilt, but the heavy weight of the outdoor protective cover makes the load capacity of the pan/tilt must be increased. At the same time, the outdoor environment has large changes in cold and heat, and it is easily corroded by rain or moisture. Therefore, outdoor heads are generally designed to be sealed and rain-proof. In addition, the outdoor pan/tilt also has a high torque and choke protection circuit to prevent the pan/tilt from being forced to start and burn the motor when it freezes. In the harsh conditions of low temperature, a temperature-controlled heater can also be installed inside the pan/tilt.
