How to Classify Cameras in the Security System

In the security system, image generates mainly from CCD cameras. CCD is the abbreviation of charge coupled device, which can change light into electric charge, store the charge and transfer it. Also, it can take out the stored charge to change the voltage, which is an ideal camera component. CCD cameras are widely used because of CCD's small volume, light weight, not affected by magnetic field, and anti-vibration and anti-impact characteristics.


CCD cameras can be roughly divided into the following categories:


By imaging color

(1) A color camera: It is suitable for distinguishing the details of the scenery, such as distinguishing the color of clothes or scenery. Due to the color, the amount of information increases, which is generally considered to be 10 times that of a black-and-white camera.

(2) A black-and-white camera: It is used in areas with insufficient light and areas where no lighting equipment can be installed at night. When the location or movement of the object is being monitored, a black-and-white camera with a resolution usually higher than that of a color camera can be selected.


By camera resolution

(1) A low-end type with an image pixel about 250,000 pixels, a color resolution of 330 lines, and a black-and-white resolution of 420 lines.

(2) A mid-range type with an image pixel between 250,000 and 380,000 pixels, a color resolution of 420 lines, and a black-and-white resolution of 500 lines.

(3) A high-resolution type with an image pixel over 380,000 pixels or more, a color resolution is greater than or equal to 480 lines, and a black-and-white resolution of 570 lines or more.


By camera sensitivity

(1) Normal type: The illumination required for normal work is 1~3lux

(2) Moonlight type: The illuminance required for normal work is about 0.1 lux

(3) Starlight type: The illumination required for normal work is below 0.01 lux

(4) Infrared illumination type: In principle, it can be 0 lux and use infrared light source for imaging.


By the size of the CCD target surface of the imaging components

(1) The size of the 1 inch target surface: 12.7mm (width) x 9.6mm (height), 16mm (diagonal)

(2) The size of the 2/3 inch target surface: 8.8mm (width) x 6.6mm (height), 11mm (diagonal)

(3) The size of the 1/2 inch target surface: 6.4mm (width) x 4.8mm (height), 8mm (diagonal)

(4) The size of the 1/3 inch target surface: 4.8mm (width) x 3.6mm (height), 6mm (diagonal)

(5) The size of the 1/4 inch target surface: 3.2mm (width) x 2.4mm (height), 4mm (diagonal)

(6)The 1/5 inch target surface is under development and no official product has been launched yet


In addition, CCD cameras are divided into pal system and ntsc system, and can also be divided according to the image signal processing method or the camera structure.
